EPA Used Covid Money That Was Not Related to Covid Relief
The Environmental Protection Agency is back in the news after opening applications to accept grants to find their spending. After President Biden passed the staggering $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package, the money awarded to the EPA went to questionable causes.
The funds were given to areas that had literally nothing to do with Covid or addressing concerns with the pandemic. Once again, they have issued more money to things that are not related to the relief.
Nearly Two Million Awarded to Tribal Governments
The EPA’s Environmental Justice Small Grants Program sent out $1.6 million of their rescue plan money to award grants for tribal governments to modify public participation. In addition, it would help with fair treatment and meaningful participation that has been affected by Covid.
Furthermore, their spending has been broken down for nearly 16 out of 20 grants being issued up to $100,000 each. Last year for the same program, nearly 100 organizations nationwide received awards of about $7.4 million.
Careless Spending Causing Concerns
The EPA forked over $2.15 million in addition to the $5.25 million American Rescue Plan bill. This money was used for “environmental justice” which has absolutely nothing to do with Covid relief.
One of the non-profit companies that earned a grant this year was Speak for the Trees, which potentially earned up to $75,000. Their methods for environmental justice include “storytelling” and “tree walks” to further broaden awareness for environmental justice communities.
